Wealthy Affiliate Review
When I started my journey to find a way out of my nine to five job, I knew there was potential online but did not have a clue how it worked or how better yet, how to make it work for me! I would see all posts about the thousands of dollars people were making each month, and I honestly started to think the internet was some sort of infomercial. I read blog after blog post about ways to make money, but I was overwhelmed and did not know where to start. Finding plenty of online courses and eBooks that people were promoting but I was not comfortable spending money on a digital product with no refund option. Somewhere along the way, I stumbled onto Wealthy Affiliate. This Wealthy Affiliate Review is an overview of my experience with the platform over the last 12 months.
How Do You Make Money With a Blog?
How do you make money with a blog? This was the question that I was looking to answer when I signed up to Wealthy Affiliate with a Free Starter Membership. I know there are a lot of great resources on the market that can answer this question and before I started with Wealthy Affiliate, I was very close to purchasing a program for over $1000 to find the answers I was looking for. In the end, I figured I might as well go with the risk-free, try-before-you-buy option (no credit card required). I had the time and nothing to lose! I’m however happy to report that Wealthy Affiliate did provide excellent training, but, that was only the start of the journey for me.
When you sign up for a free starter account with Wealthy Affiliate, you have the opportunity to set up two free websites to test out what you are learning. Here is the site I set up as a part of my training at Wealthy Affiliate: https://partywithunicorns.com. Amazingly, within a week of starting Wealthy Affiliate I had a website up and running, it appeared in Google, and I had made my first sale with the Amazon Affiliate program (it was only for about $0.15, but it sure felt great!). I don’t want to give the impression that it all happen overnight for me, there was a lot of hard work that went into creating an income online, but thanks to the training on Wealthy Affiliate I knew what to expect. I’m not going to try to summarize the entire Wealthy Affiliate program in one post, but here is an overview of what I liked best about the program and a few words of caution.
Affiliate Marketing Course – What does Wealthy Affiliate Do?
The reality is that to make money from your website; you need traffic. If no one can find your site, you are not going to be making any money. It does not matter how good your content is if no one can see it. The affiliate marketing course within Wealthy Affiliate helped me understand traffic, search engine optimization and how to get people to my website. Writing a blog is not rocket science but understanding how to people to your site is critical if you are going to be successful.
Some topics covered in the Wealthy Affiliate training are:
- Keyword Research
- PPC Marketing
- WordPress set-up and management
- Local marketing
- Social media marketing
Keyword Research Tool for Free
As a part of the training within Wealthy Affiliate, you learn about keyword research. You have access to a keyword research tool called Jaxxy. Jaxxy helps you identify what keywords to use in your blog post to drive traffic. I was amazed to learn how simply adjusting my language made a significant difference in the number of people that found my blog via Google, Yahoo and Bing. (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, don’t worry, it’s covered in training and, it’s a good thing). Note – you do not need to join Wealthy Affiliate to use Jaxxy, it is a stand-alone product that you can purchase outside of your membership.
Be Part of a Community
Another significant aspect of the Wealthy Affiliate program is the online community of Wealthy Affiliate users. To me, this group was golden. There are over 100,000 wealthy affiliate members, and they actively answer questions, provide motivation and encouragement. What I liked most about the community is the opportunity to leave from other people’s experiences and have people to brainstorm ideas with. When I started blogging, I did not let many people in my life know what I was doing. I was insecure about trying something new, so I was doing it on the side in secret. During this time the Wealthy Affiliate community was helpful in providing motivation and advice. In retrospect, my friends and family were all super supportive, but at the time I was not ready to share. To this day, I still jump on the Wealthy Affiliate group forum when I run into a roadblock, need advice or just want a little extra motivation.
If you sign up to Wealthy Affiliate using the links in this post, I will be notified. I will check-in on your progress and answer any questions you have as you go through the training and setting up your websites. Just like that, an instant community.
Some community aspects of the Wealthy Affiliate Program Include:
- Personal Affiliate Blog to update the community on your progress and lessons learned
- 1-on-1 Coaching – First seven days
- Live Chat
- Users forum to ask questions from the community
WordPress Technical Support
I am sure by now you are getting the point that I was clueless when I started my journey. I had no idea how to set up domain names, transfer domain names, set up domain emails. There was so much learn. The tech support at Wealthy Affiliate is tremendous and they can help you with any issues you might have.
- Website set-up training course (including video walk-throughs)
- 24/7 Tech support to help you with all things WordPress
Wealthy Affiliate is Only One of Many Great Options on the Market
There are many great affiliate marketing and blogging courses on the market. Wealthy Affiliate is not the only place you can get this information. For me, it was about baby steps. I wanted to find a way to make a bit of money to cover the costs of the more expensive courses. Signing up for a free account with Wealthy Affiliate allowed me to that. I got the ball rolling, without taking money out of my family budget. Now that I’m making extra income, I’m starting to reinvest some profits, to enroll in additional training and loving it. At this stage these other course are mostly to provide reviews and feedback for this site; but, it feels great knowing I’m investing in myself and building on the success I had already had. Sign up to my newsletter, and I will send your updates about reviews in the future. You can also check out my list of recommended blogging resources for other products and services that will save you time and money on your blog.
Wealthy Affiliate Cost
While this Wealthy Affiliate Review focuses on the free trial, there are paid memberships for Wealthy Affiliate available. The cost is $49/ month, but you can get a significant discount for paying annually. This cost includes your costing, domain name, tech support, hosted email and all the benefits Wealth Affiliate mentioned above. My recommendation would be to try the free option and see if the program is right for you before investing any money. There are over 1.4 million members to Wealthy Affiliate, so there is a large number of people finding value in the products offered. Maybe you will too?
Wealthy Affiliate – Word of Warning
While there are many benefits to the Wealthy Affiliate program, there is also plenty of opportunity for distractions. I believe that supporting people within the community benefits everyone, but don’t lose track of your own goals. Don’t get too caught up on live chat that you don’t write your post. It’s easy to lost track of time on chat platforms, so just remember to keep tabs with where your time is going.
Wealthy Affiliate – is it worth it?
Over the last twelve months, I have learned so much, and that is why I started this website. I always see posts about people making $1000 in their first-month blogging, but that was not my experience. For me, its been a longer journey, but a successful one. I have been able to go from zero knowledge to managing multiple income generating websites. This has been possible due to the strong foundations I learned with Wealthy Affiliate. If you are ready to start your online income journey, I do recommend a free Wealthy Affiliate trial. You can even follow my original plan and try the free account, watch the training and quit. Considering it is free, you have nothing to lose, only a bit of time and plenty of knowledge to gain. I hope you found this Wealthy Affiliate review helpful. I would love to hear your experience with the program. Please reach out via the comments section below.
Note – I am a member of Wealthy Affiliate and an affiliate for the program. As such, I can provide a link for you to try a free seven day trial of the Premium Wealthy Affiliate Program instead of the starter membership. I am using this link will not costs you anything. If you decide to join Wealthy affiliate down the track, then I will make a small commission. As with everything on Mum Cents, I only recommend products that I can give personal recommendations for.
